Wheels

When I bought the 1989 Toyota MR2 that was to become MR02EV, it was pretty un-loved. Especially the wheels which had been painted with white house paint. I could have refurbished them, but I never did like the originals so started looking for alternatives, which started a minor obsession with wheels and conflict with my Wife (cars can do that)!

The car as delivered with the original wheels.

To replace them I found a set of ROH 14x6 wheels in a junk yard on a  wreaked Supercharged AW11 (I was there looking for interior door pulls to replace mine, which had been painted with silver paint!)

I ran with the ROH wheels for several years but they had a terribly scratched up surface finish, and being only 14 inch with R60 tires, the car did not have quite the right stance.

So, I tried Work wheels and SSR wheels, looked at Rays wheels, and at one stage had about 12 wheels for the one car. At this point my Wife got really mad!

I ignored that for a time and brought a set Rota Grids 15x6.5 offset +35 with R50 tires, which have stuck. They have the right old-school charm, an interesting copper finish, fill the wheel arches nicely, and the car handles much better too. The stance of MR02EV is not quite right yet, but lowered springs will probably fix that!
