New (Modified) Transmission Installation

The modified Corolla gearbox which is now a 2 speed was finally installed into MR02EV (see earlier posts for details on the modifications).
1989 Toyota MR2 gearboxes are a little hard to find but Corolla gearboxes from the same era are internally identical, relatively easy to fine and cheap. The only difference is the selector leaver is on the opposite side of the case, instead on being on the right hand side it is on the left. So to finish installation of the gearbox we had to extend the shift selector cable by 460mm.

A normal MR2 or Corolla gearbox would have two selector cables but since our modified gearbox is a 2 speed only one cable is required.

An extension rod was fabricated extending the cable length 460mm and the cable mounting point relocated back 460mm.
