I purchased an MES-DEA Type 70/6E vacuum pump at the same time as the MES-DEA inverter and motor, also from Metric Mind. Because an EV does not have an internal combustion engine it does not have a traditional vacuum source to feed the brake booster and needs a 12v pump like the 70/6E. In addition EV conversions in Australia need a vacuum flask as the brakes must function for a short period even if the 12v pump fails. The vacuum flask in MR02EV at approximately 7 liters provides 5 – 6 pumps of the pedal before it becomes extremely heavy.
There is also a vacuum sensor attached to the flask with a LED indicator on the dash that provides a warning when the vacuum level is low, and it is time to pull over.
